KompoDry's Answer to Silica Gel: Minerals, Not Plastic

KompoDry has engineered a desiccant packet from the ground up using entirely natural materials, and the results don't just match silica gel, they beat it.

The formulation centres on three natural minerals working in combination:

Bentonite Clay handles the heavy lifting of physical moisture adsorption through its layered mineral structure. Once the packet's job is done and it goes into a compost bin or garden bed, bentonite becomes a soil conditioner, improving texture and water retention in the ground around it.

Calcium Chloride is hygroscopic so it chemically attracts and binds water molecules rather than just physically adsorbing them. At high enough absorption it can actually liquify, which is why it's often used in gel or encapsulated form.

Natural Zeolite acts as a molecular sieve, trapping residual water vapour at the microscopic level. In the soil, zeolite is a permanent fixture, it doesn't break down and disappear, it stays as a nutrient and water reservoir, a long-term gift to whatever's growing nearby.

Anhydrous Magnesium Sulfate accelerates moisture capture and, once dissolved in soil, functions as Epsom salt, a well-known supplement for plant root development and magnesium uptake.

The packet enclosing these minerals is made from Kraft paper, a strong, highly durable paper made from wood pulp.

The result: a desiccant packet that absorbs 40–65% of its weight in moisture, comfortably exceeding silica gel's benchmark of approximately 40%, and then composts completely at home, certified to Australian Standard AS 5810.

That's not a compromise. That's an upgrade.

The formulation targets DIN 55473 compliance for dust emissions (the standard that matters for pharmaceutical and food-adjacent applications), with a moisture permeability target of 800–1,000+ g/m²/24h and an approximately one-year shelf life. Custom branding on the exterior means the packet can carry a brand's visual identity, turning a functional component into a marketing moment.
